After reading all the problems with Joomla 1.6, I decided to give a new installation a shot. It can’t be as bad as all the comments I’m seeing in the forums can it? First of all my fantastico didn’t have the Joomla 1.6, so I had to download the file, upload to my server, uninstall the zip file. After going through the first few installation screens I got my first error message on page 4 – Database -
Could not connect to the database. Connector returned number: Unable to connect to the Database: Could not connect to MySQL.
I noticed that there was an extra Database type – MySQLi, but I kept it as that. I resolved the error message by directly accessing my MySQL database management screen and creating a new MySQL database name and database user on my server. I then entered the database name and user in the respective fields on page 4 and the error message was gone and I proceeded to page 5.
FYI: On page 5, remember to keep FTP Layer to “No” otherwise you will experience problems later. If you are installing on a Windows Operating System, the FTP layer is not required.
I will continue report my experience with Joomla 1.6 in next articles. Hope this can help you. I think you shouldn’t run your website base on Joomla 1.6 In this time if you don’t want to be crazy with it
