In an official blog post, Google team confirmed that they have started putting this in action though the number of websites ranking changed on the basis of load time are very less. This is an official statement from the Google blog:

“While site speed is a new signal, it doesn’t carry as much weight as the relevance of a page. Currently, fewer than 1% of search queries are affected by the site speed signal in our implementation and the signal for site speed only applies for visitors searching in English on Google.com at this point. We launched this change a few weeks back after rigorous testing. If you haven’t seen much change to your site rankings, then this site speed change possibly did not impact your site.”

In my opinion this new parameter for site ranking  is a combination of  good  and bad move, because many new bloggers or webmasters are not aware  of site optimization and probably they will miss their search engine ranking because of this. Meanwhile here are few things which you can do to optimize your site load time:

CSS Sprites :

CSS sprites is a technology to convert multiple images into one big image and this will reduce the number of concurrent connections and your website will load faster. You can read more about CSS Sprites here.

Caching system:

By caching your pages, we can serve your website faster. The request will be served directly from earlier saved page on your webhost and this will reduce the server load and also pages will be server instantly.

Reduce your Images size:

Another quick way to speed-up  your site loading time is by decreasing the size of your images. You can use many web tools to compress your images without reducing the quality of your image. 

Web server

Web hosting also plays a major role in your website loading time. If your server is a slow system, chances are your website will take ages to load and many other parameters like which type of server they are using Apache or Nginx. If you not aware of it, just for the info Nginx servers are very fast in comparison to Apache.

In order to check the load time of your site you can use an online tool called “Website Speed Test“. It allows you to enter up to 10 websites, and the results display the size of the website, the total loading time and the average speed per KB.
